What is the Music & Dementia Research Network?

WELCOME

The overall goal of our research network is to accelerate research that aims to understand the mechanisms by which Music Based Interventions (MBIs) affect health and well-being for older adults living with Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) and their care partners.

Music, Dementia & Brain Health Research Summit/Performance. AARP’s Brain Health Action Collaborative and the Music & Dementia Research Network (MDRN) co-hosted a public event showcasing the power of music, song and dance for brain health and the many positive impacts of music therapy for individuals living with dementia. Dr. Julene Johnson, a GCBH music report expert and principal investigator of the MDRN, served as emcee for the event. Check out the recording (Password: Music0516!).

The performance was the culmination of a 2-day research summit at AARP, supported by the NIH National Institute on Aging, that brought together over 40 researchers from multiple disciplines to discuss how music affects the health and well-being of older adults living with Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias and their care partners. The outcome of the summit will be a publication that will outline research priorities.
