Short Biography:
Melanie is a trainee in the MD/PhD program at Northwestern. Her PhD research focused on the link between sleep, circadian rhythm, and tauopathies. She is classically trained in flute performance (double majoring with a BS/BA in neuroscience/music from Emory University) and currently performs with the Northwestern Medical Orchestra. She is finishing up medical school while doing post-doc research with cognitive neurologist Dr. Borna Bonakdarpour studying music-based interventions in dementia and other neurological disorders. Melanie also helps out with outreach, programming, and research for the Northwestern Music and Medicine Program (NMMP) as the Research & Operations Specialist. Her research interests include music-based interventions for mental health and improving health and well-being via ethically-designed technologies.
